How to hire a handyman you'll call again

A short, practical guide to the first conversation.

Editorial·October 2, 2026·4 min read
A handyman's tool belt and worn work boots

The first conversation with a handyman is more important than the work itself. Get the conversation right and the work happens almost automatically.

Ask three things up front: how long the job actually takes, what could go wrong, and what they'd want you to do before they arrive. The third one is the one most people skip and it's the one that makes the biggest difference.

Don't ask for the lowest price. Ask for the most realistic one. They will respect you for it.
